CUFFS, COLLAR, BUTTONS AND SHIRT

A cuff, collar and buttons are elements of classic shirt. Shirt is one of the most important things of wardrobe of any man and woman. Men's shirts were clothes, symbolizing membership in the rich class up until modern times. They are not suited for physical work and the cost of constant washing, ironing and starching could afford only a wealthy man. The situation began to change only in the XIX century due to the industry.

The first standard sizes of men's shirts appeared in the U.S. in 1860. By the end of XIX century men's shirts became more practical to wear through the soft turn-down collar of the modern type. Starched collar standing ousted from everyday wear. They were very popular as a sign of the festive suit in the early years of the twentieth century. Men starched them so they were tough. Modern button down shirt does not need it through special strips of thick fabric inside the collar and cuffs and hard inserts in the corners of the collar.

Color in the shirt came in the twentieth century too. First, people looked askance at the colored shirt, suspecting their respective owners in the desire to hide the lack of cleanliness. Prejudice has passed, when the colored shirts were sewn with white collars and cuffs. So such model balanced between looseness and officially appeared in modern world. They have elegant look and they are still relevant today. Another invention of the early of century is buttoned collars (they were invented to change the shirt rarer). But today it is irrelevant and not important, because humanity is freed from many of the problems due to washing machines. The shirt has a bright future as a part of man's and woman's clothes.

Shirts are not replaced by T-shirts and turtlenecks, which were invented in XX century. Today there are new models of such shirts, some elements are added, and colors are change. Advanced technology allows making shirts of modern fabrics with unique properties. Now everyone can buy fine shirts. In addition, fashion does not stand still: designers offer business women's shirts sewn by the type of male.
